From April 3 to 6, 2026, the SAM Basket International Youth Tournament brings some of Europe’s top youth teams to Ticino. Four days of intensity, passion, and high-level basketball, with U14 and U16 teams ready to face off on the court in an event that grows in prestige and quality every year.

The tournament serves as a meeting point for different basketball cultures, offering a unique opportunity for young athletes to compete against international opponents and for the public to discover the talents who may one day grace the stages of professional basketball.

U16 category

Žalgiris returns to Massagno as the defending champion, determined to defend the title it won last year. The Swiss national team, after narrowly missing the final in the previous edition, arrives with the stated goal of going all the way and trying to bring home the trophy. From Slovenia comes KK Ilirija, a solid and ambitious club directly linked to Luka Dončić’s entourage and always focused on developing young talent. Italy will be represented by two powerhouses in youth basketball: Orange1 Basket Bassano, one of Europe’s top youth programs, and Fortitudo 103 Academy, now a regular and consistently competitive presence at the SYT.

Rounding out the field are the debutants Next Step Academy, an emerging and rapidly growing team, and of course the hosts, SAM Basket Massagno U16, ready to defend the colors of Ticino in front of their home crowd.

The U14 Division: The Future on the Rise

The U14 division also promises exciting action and raw talent. The participating teams are: Next Step Basket Rapallo U14, PGT Cantù, SAM Basket Massagno U14, S.G. Fortitudo, Ticino Basket U14, and Žalgiris BA U14.

Žalgiris is doubling its presence by also bringing its U14 team, confirming its desire to consolidate its dominance in youth basketball. Fortitudo and Next Step are participating in both categories again, a sign of the strength of their technical programs.

Making its debut is PGT Cantù, the youth division of Pallacanestro Cantù, bringing a tradition of top-level basketball to Massagno. Ticino will be represented by the canton’s top prospects with the Ticino Basket U14 team, while SAM Basket Massagno U14 will take the court with the pride of playing at home and the desire to surprise.

La categoria U16: il ritorno dei campioni e nuove sfide

Lo Žalgiris torna a Massagno da campione in carica, deciso a difendere il titolo conquistato lo scorso anno. La Nazionale Svizzera, dopo aver sfiorato la finale nella passata edizione, arriva con l’obiettivo dichiarato di completare il percorso e provare a portare a casa il trofeo. Dalla Slovenia arriva il KK Ilirija, una realtà solida e ambiziosa, direttamente collegata all’entourage di Luka Dončić e da sempre attenta allo sviluppo dei giovani. L’Italia sarà rappresentata da due potenze del settore giovanile: l’Orange1 Basket Bassano, uno dei migliori vivai d’Europa, e la Fortitudo 103 Academy, ormai presenza fissa e sempre competitiva al SYT. A completare il quadro ci sono l’esordiente Next Step Academy, realtà emergente e in forte crescita, e naturalmente i padroni di casa della SAM Basket Massagno U16, pronti a difendere i colori ticinesi davanti al proprio pubblico.

La categoria U14: il futuro che avanza

Anche la categoria U14 promette spettacolo e talento puro. Le squadre partecipanti: Next Step Basket Rapallo U14, PGT Cantù, SAM Basket Massagno U14, S.G. Fortitudo, Ticino Basket U14 e Žalgiris BA U14.

Lo Žalgiris raddoppia la propria presenza portando anche la formazione U14, confermando la volontà di consolidare il proprio dominio giovanile. Fortitudo e Next Step replicano la partecipazione in entrambe le categorie, segno della solidità dei loro programmi tecnici. Debutta invece la PGT Cantù, settore giovanile della Pallacanestro Cantù, che porta a Massagno una tradizione cestistica di altissimo livello. Il Ticino sarà rappresentato dai migliori prospetti del cantone con la rappresentativa Ticino Basket U14, mentre la SAM Basket Massagno U14 scenderà in campo con l’orgoglio di giocare in casa e con la voglia di sorprendere.
